Purpose of data processing

The project should analyse the data within the consortium of partners, and after the finalization of the project on 31.12.2027 the data will be archived in an anonymized form and be available for sharing with the academic community

Categories of personal data concerned

No de-anonymised personal data will be processed. The data referred to here are anonymized survey data and linked webtracking data including URLs and time stamps.

Legal basis for the processing

Legal basis for the processing is legitimate scientific interest and is agreed upon through a data use agreement, which specifies the researcher’s rights and obligations. 

Recipients of the personal data

A results report in which the results of the project are presented in a non-personal manner will be prepared, permanently archived and published for worldwide use for further various research purposes via the MEN4DEM homepage.

For the permanent safeguarding of research results, your research data will be transferred to the GESIS data archive for long-term archiving after completion of the research work. Researchers employed by GESIS as well as researchers who are not employees of GESIS will have access to your data. These data do not contain any personal reference. The use of data by researchers who are not GESIS employees is dependent on the demonstration of a legitimate scientific interest and is defined by a data use agreement via the GESIS data archive, which specifies the rights and obligations of the researcher.

By agreeing to participate, you agree that all your data processed within the project will be published in the GESIS data archive for long-term archiving purposes and used worldwide for social science research. After archiving, the data collected in the project will be processed for various other social sciences research purposes. 
If the project includes follow-up surveys, it is requested that the following sentence be added: "This also applies to the data processed through the follow-up surveys."

Storage period

The duration of storage depends on the research purpose. Personal survey data is stored for 10 years in accordance with the guideline for ensuring good scientific practice. This retention is important because researchers must be given the opportunity to verify the accuracy of research results. The non-personal survey data are archived indefinitely in the GESIS data archive.

Rights of the data subject

If your personal data are being processed, you are a data subject within the meaning of the GDPR and have the following rights vis-à-vis the controller:

  • Right to rectification, Article 16 GDPR 
  • Right to erasure (‘right to be forgotten’), Article 17 GDPR
  • Right to restriction of processing, Art. 18 GDPR
  • Right to data portability, Article 20 GDPR

You have the right to object, on grounds relating to your particular situation, to processing of personal data concerning you which is carried out for scientific or historical research purposes or statistical purposes pursuant to Article 89(1) GDPR.

Your right of access, right to rectification, right to restriction of processing and right to object may be restricted to the extent that it is likely to render impossible or seriously impair the achievement of the research or statistical purposes and the restriction is necessary for the fulfillment of the research and statistical purposes.

Withdrawal of consent

You have the right to withdraw your consent at any time. The withdrawal of consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal.
